Fleet Arts  examples of workshops -  ’ Menu’

NB this is not an exhaustive list, but gives a good indication of the range of possibilities.

Half day workshops (i.e.   2 – 2 1/4 hours)

Visual Arts

  • Charcoal drawing
  • Print making
    • Mono prints
    • Block prints ( foam  and other blocks) *
    • Press printing
  • Line drawing: “Taking a line for a walk “ – fun drawing techniques, including:
    • wire pictures,
    • huge line drawings,
    • making a line drawing  that is 3D
  • Sports arts
    • drawing/painting  individual pictures
    • working together on giant sports pictures

 

Crafts

  • paper  
    • paper making from recycled paper *
  • fimo:  earrings,  buttons, fridge magnets, badges, decorative bits for cards
  • textiles
    • silk painting
    • block printing
  • Mask making *
  • Puppet making
    • Shadow puppets (needs a space that can be blacked out) *
    • Pop-up puppets *

Music

  • Introduction to DJ’ing
  • DJ stage 2 - with other music technology (e.g.  keyboard, computer, drum pads & fx box)
  • Drumming and rhythm workshop

 

 

Full day workshops (i.e. 2 X 2 hr sessions)

Visual Arts

  • Charcoal making and  drawing *
  • Print making  - 2 of the above, or in more depth, but also
    • Screen printing (whole day needed)
  • Line drawing: “Taking a line for a walk “: fun drawing techniques  - 2 of the above, or in more depth

  • giant withy figures/constructions

Crafts

  • paper  
    • paper making from recycled paper *

    • papier mache bowls, coasters etc (spread over 2 sessions with time to dry  - at least a day apart) *

    • T shirt decoration
    • Mini quick Banner making
  • making miniature bound books / including marbled paper *
  • Frames e.g.  mirror frames, picture frames
  • Paper lantern designing and making ( for procession or indoor decoration)
  • Mask making
  • Puppet making
    • Shadow puppets (needs a space that can be blacked out) & ‘performance’ for family/friends
    • Pop-up puppets
    • String puppets

Design

  • mini raft making and raft race ‘track’ ( needs outdoor space, good weather as need to build a  mini ‘white water run’ )
  • mini motorised vehicles (for over 8’s, easier for over 11’s; Max 18 young people)
  • making and decorating lightweight architectural structures (all ages)

 

Examples of themes or larger projects:

 

Easter: traditional crafts

Cultural diversity:  e.g.  Rangoli, African textiles

Carnival: music and processional figures, masks

 

Arts for long-term/permanent display near centres:

Murals on boards

Mosaics – for placing outside

NB Workshops marked * above promote recycling/re-use of materials – and therefore have an environmental slant.
