Save as: Current Memories

An Installation/exhibition at Erewash Museum.

The Save as: current memories installation in the Lally gallery of the Erewash Museum was open to the public from Sat 2nd February until 7th March 2008.  Artists worked with local groups to look at ways in which the museum’s collections of local memorabilia and artifacts were relevant to local people nowadays.

Fleet Arts worked with Erewash Borough Council and The Friends of Erewash Museum to set up this project. Local artists from Spiral Arts worked with four groups from Cotmanhay and Long Eaton.

Each of the four groups had a different focus:

Adults from Breakthru, Long Eaton, looked at how some of the museum’s collections of domestic life - and some specific objects - sparked personal memories.

Bennerley School media club and a media studies group made an animation using 3D models and plasticine characters based on their imagined ideas for both a future Ilkeston and a Museum of The Future.

Pupils from year 6 of Harrington Junior School took the starting point of toys and games. They used some items from the museum’s collections box and also looked at their current interests and activities.

Wilsthorpe School focused on archaeology with pupils from year 7.  They made objects that reflected archaeological finds and fossils as well as objects that reflect the present day which could be found in the future.
