Millennium Banners Project
The Millennium Banner Project celebrated the people, places and partners of
Amber Valley. Through a community based project, using both traditional textile
techniques and 'state of the art' technologies. Textile banners have traditionally
represented groups of people with a common cause. whether it be a Mother's or
a Miner's Union, a textile banner is a symbol of unity, hope and identity.

The Millennium Banners, made by people of all ages and abilities, are lasting
pieces of public art owned by the communities that they celebrate.

They are an important historical reference for future generations as they depict
the distinctive identity of our towns and villages at the change of the Millennium,
and reflect the work and leisure activities of those living within them.

Following on from a successful pilot project, run in partnership with Fleet Arts,
the Borough Council was awarded a grant from the Millennium Festival fund to
develop the project.
Fleet Arts co-ordinated the community workshops.
